The confirmed story of Beast of Reincarnation begins in Japan in 4026. Blight has devastated the world, changed living things into dangerous malefacts, and reshaped the landscape. Emma was born afflicted by Blight and serves as a Sealer, hunting malefacts and absorbing their Blight. Koo is a malefact. Their companionship puts two beings who should be enemies onto the same westward journey toward the Beast of Reincarnation, identified by GAME FREAK as the source of all Blight.
The Emma lore guide collects her official character facts without revealing post-launch discoveries. This hub separates public premise, terminology, character knowledge, and open mysteries so that marketing statements do not become invented canon.
The public premise in chronological order
The world is a post-apocalyptic Japan that combines traditional Japanese elements with science fiction. Humanity survives in limited habitable spaces called Colonies. The game begins inside one of them. Emma lives as an outcast because her Blight-born condition visibly connects her to the force people fear.
Emma and Koo meet in the east. Koo belongs to the malefact category that Emma is expected to hunt as a Sealer, so their partnership violates the world’s apparent order. They eventually travel toward the far west to confront the Beast of Reincarnation. Along the way, they cross changing environments, meet other people with secrets, fight through blighted forests, and face Nushi.
This order is supported by director-authored material. It does not establish the names of every Colony, the exact inciting scene, the full cast, a chapter list, or the ending. Those details remain behind the public release and should receive explicit spoiler scope when documented.
Blight affects bodies, society, and land
Blight is not only an enemy effect. It transforms living things, alters the environment, and defines the way society treats Emma and Koo. Emma’s condition fused her with plants and gave her plant-manipulating hair. Koo is a Blight-altered creature categorized as a malefact. The land itself can transform as forest erupts through wasteland.
The term should therefore be recorded by context. A story entry may describe social fear of a Blight-born person. A world entry may describe a transforming landscape. A combat entry may describe a malefact. Reusing one vague definition for all three would erase the different consequences first-party material emphasizes.
No source reviewed for this pre-release English corpus supplies a complete origin history, scientific model, cure, religious doctrine, or final meaning of Blight. The Beast of Reincarnation is called its source, but “source” should not be expanded into a causal explanation before the story does so.
Emma is both outcast and Sealer
Emma was born corrupted by Blight. GAME FREAK says she can manipulate plants, has plant-like vines for hair, and lives without memory or emotion. People shun and fear her. At the same time, her role as a Sealer requires her to hunt malefacts and absorb their Blight into her own body.
That creates a central tension: the person protecting others from malefacts is marked by the same force and excluded from their society. The fact can be stated; the reason for her missing memory and emotion, the full operation of sealing, and the consequences of absorbing more Blight remain story questions.
Emma’s vines are also physical abilities. Official material shows them helping her traverse broken bridges and high walls and attack from above. Lore should not convert those mechanics into metaphors unless the game itself makes the connection.
Koo complicates the word malefact
Koo is explicitly a malefact, described as a kind of being that poses a threat to the world. Yet he becomes Emma’s companion and supplies command-selected techniques in combat. His existence makes it unsafe to write “all malefacts are mindless enemies” or assume the classification fully explains character, intention, or loyalty.
The public story emphasizes comfort, reliability, loneliness, and the growing bond between Emma and Koo. It also says both carry major secrets. A spoiler-safe reference can establish their roles and incompatibility without guessing Koo’s origin, why he joins Emma, or what his secret reveals.
Official English material spells his name Koo. Use that spelling in English route titles and body copy. Alternate renderings from another language or unofficial site should not replace the localized first-party name.
Nushi connect world danger to the journey
Nushi are giant malefacts that generate blighted forests. Emma and Koo must travel through those forests, defeat the Nushi, and acquire power. The Store describes bosses from across the world and capturing their powers as part of the mission to defeat the Beast of Reincarnation.
This makes Nushi more than optional monsters in the public premise. They shape the landscape and the protagonists’ growth. It does not prove a fixed number of Nushi, a specific order, or that every boss is a Nushi. A post-launch glossary must use the game’s label for each encounter.
Combat coverage says bosses can unlock Bloom Arts and techniques, while the director says Emma and Koo gain respective skills. Those are progression facts. The narrative reason or consequence of each captured power belongs behind encounter-specific spoiler warnings.
Colonies and the rules people live by
A Colony is one of the few habitable areas in the devastated world. The opening Colony provides a social frame: humanity has places of refuge, but fear of Blight still shapes belonging. First-party material does not yet define Colony government, geography, technology, trade, or the relationship between multiple settlements.
One especially deliberate world rule appears in Furushima’s Developer_Direct article: never look up at the sky. He presents it as an ancient legend warning that something is floating above. The warning is official, but the identity of that “something,” the reason for the taboo, and its role in the story are unrevealed. A lore reference should preserve the uncertainty rather than solve the mystery through trailer frames.
Other characters are said to carry major secrets that intertwine with Emma and Koo’s journey. Names, motives, factions, and outcomes should enter the index only from official character material or the public game.
How spoiler layers will work
Lore pages will use three evidence layers:
- Official premise: Store copy, developer-authored articles, publisher statements, and named public trailers.
- Observed story fact: a scene or codex entry from AppID 2001760, recorded with chapter/context and a spoiler label.
- Interpretation: a clearly identified reading that cannot be presented as canon.
A character page will open with spoiler-free identity and role. Mid-game relationships, revelations, and boss connections belong under a labeled boundary. Endings and post-credits material require a separate high-spoiler section. Search snippets and copied competitor summaries are not enough to establish a revelation.
This structure also protects version scope. If an update alters localization or adds a codex entry, the exact public version and source language should be recorded without rewriting earlier observations as if they were always present.
Known terms without speculation
- Blight: the corrupting force that changes living beings and landscapes; the Beast of Reincarnation is publicly described as its source.
- Blight-born: Emma’s condition from birth, associated with plant fusion and her social exclusion.
- Malefact: a Blight-associated being described as a threat; Koo belongs to this category.
- Sealer: Emma’s role, requiring her to hunt malefacts and absorb their Blight.
- Colony: one of the remaining habitable human areas; the game starts inside one.
- Nushi: a giant malefact that generates a blighted forest.
- Beast of Reincarnation: the protagonists’ western objective and the named source of all Blight in official material.
Each definition is intentionally limited to what a cited first-party source establishes. Full etymology, faction meaning, and translated terminology can be added when the game’s own glossary is available.
Lore questions answered now
Does Emma remember her past?
Official material says she lives without memory or emotion. The cause and later development are unrevealed here.
Is Koo an ordinary dog?
No. Koo is a malefact and Emma’s companion, creating a central contradiction with her Sealer role.
What year is the story set?
4026, in post-apocalyptic Japan.
What is above the world?
The developer has only given the rule not to look at the sky and said an ancient legend warns of “something” floating there. Its identity remains an official mystery.
