The minimum target pairs low settings at 1080p/40 fps with upscaling. The recommended target pairs medium settings at 1080p/60 fps with upscaling. These are the corrected Store specifications referenced by Fictions and GAME FREAK on July 30.
Compare the whole target, not only the GPU name. Resolution, preset, upscaler mode, VRAM, CPU, storage, and laptop power limits all affect whether a system resembles the publisher’s test guidance.
Minimum specification and target
The minimum CPU is an Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600. The minimum GPU is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB or AMD Radeon RX 580 8 GB. Steam lists 16 GB RAM, DirectX 12, Windows 10/11, 45 GB free space, and an SSD.
The accompanying target is Low at 1080p and 40 fps, using DLSS for RTX 20–50 series or FSR1 Performance. The GTX 1070 itself cannot use DLSS, so the Store’s wording describes upscaler paths across supported NVIDIA generations rather than promising DLSS on every minimum GPU.
An 8 GB VRAM requirement is explicit in both named minimum cards. A GPU with a similar performance label but less VRAM should be treated as below the published match until measured.
Recommended specification and target
The recommended CPU is an Intel Core i7-12700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X. The recommended GPU is an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB. Windows 11, 16 GB RAM, DirectX 12, 45 GB free storage, and an SSD complete the tier.
Steam associates this tier with Medium at 1080p and 60 fps using DLSS or FSR3 Performance. It does not say Ultra, native 1080p, 1440p, 4K, ray tracing, or an uncapped frame rate. A buyer seeking those outcomes needs post-launch benchmarks on comparable hardware.
Laptop and near-match hardware
Desktop and laptop GPUs sharing a family name can differ in power, cooling, memory width, and VRAM. A laptop RTX 3060 is not automatically equivalent to the listed desktop RTX 3060 12 GB. Record the exact mobile GPU, VRAM, and configured power limit.
For older or lower-tier hardware, avoid a yes/no prediction based solely on average benchmark rank. The minimum target already uses a performance upscaler and aims for 40 fps. A machine below one component may still start, but that is not the same as meeting the published experience target.
Integrated graphics are not listed. Neither are handheld PC profiles. Steam Deck status remained unknown in the Store evidence reviewed for this checkpoint.
Storage and preload headroom
The listed requirement is 45 GB available space on an SSD. Steam preload packages can be smaller than the installed footprint and may need additional temporary space when decrypting. Keep a margin above 45 GB for unpacking, launch updates, shader data, saves, and Steam operations.
The July 30 official notice says preload is available to Steam pre-purchasers and activated keys. If disk activity is high at unlock while network use is low, Steam may be unpacking rather than frozen. Let the client finish before verifying files.
Do not use one user’s preload download as the permanent install size. Downloaded compression, installed files, optional language data, and temporary workspace are different measurements.
Upscaler wording matters
At minimum, the Store names DLSS on compatible RTX hardware or FSR1 Performance. At recommended, it names DLSS or FSR3 Performance. The page does not state which DLSS generation, whether frame generation is included, or how image quality compares between modes.
When testing, record the selected technology and quality mode exactly. “Upscaling on” is too vague. Also record dynamic resolution, frame generation, sharpening, and render scale separately if the final menu exposes them.
The publisher corrected earlier specification errors, so copied pre-July-30 tables should not outrank the live Store listing.
What the requirements do not guarantee
Meeting recommended does not guarantee the same result in every scene, driver, background workload, or hardware configuration. The official announcement itself says testing cannot cover every setup. It does, however, provide the best current baseline for purchase decisions.
The specification does not prove Steam Deck support, native Linux, native macOS, cross-save, mod support, ultrawide behavior, HDR, ray tracing, or a shader-compilation pattern. Each needs its own evidence.
For a useful benchmark, run a repeatable section long enough to capture both average performance and frame-time spikes. Publish the game version, driver, exact scene, and settings so another player can compare.
